Mackinac Island Great Turtle Run. It’s a trail half marathon with tons of hills at the peak of fall beautifulness.

Anywhere with great beaches, scenic trails, and few people.

Favorite things to do other than running?
I love to cook, read, and watch horror movies. And eat. All the food.

I love being surrounded by likeminded, crazy people. It’s fun swapping running stories and hearing what other people have pushed themselves to do.

Favorite distance or race to run?
I’m still in high school, so I’ve only ever run 5ks (and lots of them). My favorite race so far has been the Wisconsin Dells Invitational. It was my first night race, and seeing the course and team tents lit up with Christmas lights was something I’ll never forget.
Favorite place to travel to?
My family doesn’t travel very much. This year, however, the band will be taking a road trip down to Florida to perform in the park’s parade. I’m very excited to ride all of the crazy rollercoasters the park has to offer.
Favorite things to do other than running?
It’s hard sometimes to remember that I have a life outside of running! However, if I’m not racking up the miles or stressing over schoolwork, I love to pick up a good Stephen King novel. Much to my sister’s annoyance, I also enjoy loudly practicing any of my three instruments; alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, or bass clarinet.
What you love about specialty running stores?
The main reason I started working at Performance was because of the community. Being part of a specialty store means seeing and interacting with the same group of customers on a regular basis as they come into the store to buy their next running goodie, or just run in one of our classes. We all get to know each other, and a sense of family develops that can’t be beat at any chain stores.
How many pairs of running shoes do you currently own?
I currently only own four pairs of running shoes, but in the words of a certain famous mermaid “I want more”! My rate of shoe-buying has no doubt increased since working at Performance, but I do hope to keep my ever-growing collection under control in the future.
Favorite restaurant?
My favorite restaurant is currently Noodles and Company. You just can’t beat their penne rosa! Don’t tell my mom, but consuming Noodles every day is a serious possibility when I’m living on my own in a couple years..
What three items would you take with you on a deserted island?
The first thing I would take would be my eos lip balm. Chapped lips are everyone’s worst enemy! If it was possible to install a shower on a deserted island, I would, because procrastinating by taking hot showers is my favorite pastime. Lastly, I would take my running shoes of course! I may be trapped on an island, but the running grind never stops.

Favorite brand: Saucony
Favorite distance or race: My favorite distance is the 800. My favorite race was the Flora-Bama Beach Run/Walk For American Warriors 1/2 Marathon and 5k. The race had been rain delayed but being able to run on the beach and beat my dad made up for it.
Ultimate goal: I’d like to be able to complete a track season without any major injuries. My long term goal is to never have to give up running
What running means to you / why is it important in your life: The meaning of running in my opinion is the ability to have the toughness and determination to push and improve yourself no matter the distance or goal. Without running I strongly believe that I would be lesser version of who I am today.
What you love about specialty running stores: That a knowledgeable staff is there to provide insight on current products and techniques. They are also more then willing to go the extra mile to help with your personal needs in order to help you reach your goals.
Greatest running achievement: Being able to get my dad excited about running again.

Favorite distance or race: 800, 1500, and 5k. My favorite race was my senior year, 5k, I ran the race really smart, had a huge PR, and ran it with my teammates. It was an all around good race.
Ultimate goal: I want to start racing again. I took plenty of time off after competing in college. I am training now and I need commit to racing again.
What running means to you / why is it important in your life: Running is something that has always been an outlet/stress reliever. It has also brought me some of my greatest friends. Running is something that defines who I am.
What you love about specialty running stores: I really like the atmosphere that the store brings to staff and customers. I like the knowledge we all carry and pass on to the customer. I enjoy helping people reach their physical goals through running and products.
Greatest running achievement: While racing at Arkansas State University, my junior year the conference course was a tough one. We went out there and crushed the course. I placed in the top 20 of the conference and scored for the team. We won conference that day. Nothing will top that moment as a cross country team!

Favorite distance: 1/2 Marathon
Ultimate goal: Qualify as a master’s runner for the Boston Marathon
What running means to you / why is it important in your life: I discover running while in middle school because of some great teachers and coaches I had.  Running can be a lifelong activity and can take you places where you may never go and meet and see thing you may never have been able to otherwise.  I have learned many lifelong skills through running that I apply to my everyday life.
What you love about specialty running stores: What I like about specialty running store is the individual attention you get to from the staff along with the wealth of knowledge they have. The staff will get you in the right pair of shoes and the right gear to help you reach your goals in your running experience.

Alison

Oak Creek Manager

Favorite brand: Oiselle and Nike
Favorite distance or race to run? Quarter Marathon and 10K. The 2015 Disney Princess Half Marathon was so emotional, not only was I running at Disney, which was an experience in itself, but I had found my passion for running again.
Favorite place to travel to? Disney! It may seem silly, but it is always my most relaxing vacation of the year with my husband.
Favorite things to do other than running? Travel, read, eat, hike, snuggle my puppy.

Ultimate goal: Right now I’m striving for PRs in 5K to the Half and have made a bucket list of Half Marathons I want to run.
What running means to you / why is it important in your life: Running has been a part of my life since I was 13. I believe running is about personal growth – both on and off the course. I became more confident, outgoing, compassionate, and driven because of running.
What you love about specialty running stores:  The community! Getting to know each customer – their experiences and goals – really makes for a personalized experience. Plus store events are the perfect way to meet like minded people, try out new gear, and most of all have fun running.

Zach

Delafield Manager

Favorite brand: I have run in shoes from Adidas, Asics, Brooks, Mizuno, Newton, Nike, and Saucony. My favorites include the Brooks Ravenna, Saucony Guide, and my college track spikes the Nike Zoom Ventulus Plus. As a whole I currently have a slight bias toward Saucony.
Favorite distance: In college I loved the mile and steeplechase, but as a post-collegian I have gravitated toward the longer road events such as the half-marathon and triathlon. My favorite road races are two smaller 10ks in the UP of Michigan, The Bessemer Hometown Run, and the John Jarvi Jr. Memorial Run in Bessemer and Ironwood respectively. My favorite triathlon is the Woodson YMCA Triathlon in Wausau, WI.
Ultimate goal: Personally my running goals gravitate around setting PRs or the steps involved in attempting to set PRs. Professionally, if I inspire someone to take their first strides, or help make a customer’s running experience more comfortable, my goals have been met.
What running means to you / why is it important in your life: Running is something I picked up in middle school when all my friends signed up for cross country and is something that has stayed with me since. Running is how I met my wife and we even took post wedding pictures on the track at our college!
What you love about specialty running stores:  Specialty running stores, like PRO, enable customers to gain first hand knowledge, immediately get in direct contact with the product, and be able to purchase and use that product the same day!
Greatest running achievement: Winning the 2012 Lakefront Discovery Run 15k the morning of my wedding!

Holly

Shorewood Manager

Favorite brand: Hoka One One and Saucony
Favorite distance or race: Ice Age 50k!
Ultimate goal: Run a 50 mile race in 2018, then a 100 miler! I’d also love to run the Speedgoat 50k and TransRockies Stage Race someday.
What running means to you / why is it important in your life: Running is what I turned to when I wanted to lose some weight, but it became the best way for me to challenge myself and to grow as an athlete and a person. It’s given me more than I could have ever imagined, including a job, friends, and incredible experiences!
What you love about specialty running stores:  It’s all about the people! I love meeting our customers and hearing their stories- it’s incredibly humbling, uplifting, and motivating!

What you love about specialty running stores: The personal attention. Why I love working at a specialty running store is hearing about everyone’s achievements and being a small part of reaching those achievements.
Greatest running achievement: Finishing a half marathon.

Nick

Brookfield Assistant Manager

Favorite brand: Nike trainers and New Balance spikes
Favorite distance: 400m
Ultimate goal: I would love to continue sprinting as long as I can as well as become more involved in coaching track.
What running means to you / why is it important in your life: Running means so much to me because it’s competition in its purest form. Seeing who’s the fastest person is something we’ve done since we were kids, and even now after sprinting for over 10 years I get just as excited to race as ever.
What you love about specialty running stores:  The best part about PRO is how all of us are runners yet so different. Marathoners, triathletes, 5k runners, and sprinters. Between all of us we bring such a broad range of experiences to answer any running question a customer has.
Greatest running achievement: Being 3x All Conference my senior year.
